Bryson City Dateline

Jan B. Slaughter, 58, of the Deep Creek Community went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 12, 2012 at her residence. A native of Georgia, she had lived in Swain County for 33 years. She was president of the “We Can” support group in Bryson City. She was preceded in death by one brother and her partner in life, John Wade. She was the daughter of Frank and Jo Anne A. Bragg of Whittier.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three daughters, Patricia Read of Whittier, Jennifer Owl of Cherokee, Katie Kellner of Sevierville, TN; one son, David Huckaby of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Nancy Schramm and husband Robert of Whittier; two brothers, David Bragg and wife Evelyn of Carrollton, GA, Alan Caldwell and wife Brandi of Whitesburg, GA; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; special friend, Robert Simonds of Bryson City; and "bunches" of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Ed Kilgore will officiate with burial in Boiling Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
