Edna Lee Cook, 89, passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 16, 2010 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Pete and Hassie Jane Thomas Smith. She was a native of Swain County but lived most of her life in Jackson County. She was a member of Wilmot Baptist Church and attended church faithfully as long as she was physically able. Edna was an avid gardener who loved tending to her garden. She loved to sing and had a very good sense of humor.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Albert Cook; two sons, Homer and Kermit both of Darrington, WA; and several brothers and sisters as well as one grandchild and one great grandchild.
She is survived by three sons, Willard, Mack, and Berlin Cook all of Washington State; three daughters, Eula Sanders of Washington State, Frances Tucker of Salisbury, NC, Doris McMillan of Whittier; one brother, Willard Smith of Bryson City; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home with the Revs. Johnny Ray Davis and Ben Tapp officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bumgarner Cemetery.
