Bryson City Dateline:
Dorothy Barton Lyday, 93, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 25th, 2010 in a Swain County Health Care Facility. A native of Greenville County S.C. she had lived in Swain County Since 1945. She graduated in 1939 from Furman University in Greenville, SC. She was a School Teacher, having taught in Liberty, SC. During WWII she served her country by working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. While she was working for the F.B.I, she married U.S. Army Captain Robert L. Lyday in 1945. She was a lifetime member of the Swain County Hospital Auxiliary, and lifetime member of the B.C. Chapter of American Assoc of University Women. She was a past Board Member of Marianna Black Library.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert L. (Jack) Lyday, three children, Susan Y. Lyday of Flat Rock, ,NC, Sylvia J. Lyday of Cullowhee, and Russell W. Lyday and wife Vicky of Morganton, NC, one step granddaughter, Audrey Walkingstick, and two grandsons, Stephen Lyday and wife Jennifer and Robert Lyday.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Bryson City First Baptist Church of which she was a devoted member. Dr. John Tagliarini will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Church.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bryson City First Baptist Church.
