Obituary of Vannie Gentry Woodard

Vannie Woodard, 89, of the Conleys Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 1, 2015 in a Jackson County Hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Bryant and Oma Brendle Woodard and husband of the late Edith Childers Woodard. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Geraldine Hooper and one brother Worley Woodard. He was a member of the Whittier Church of God. Vannie retired from the NCDOT Bridge Department after 30 years of service. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Alice Woodard of the home, and Norma McClure and husband Steve of Sylva; three grandchildren, Michelle Hooper, Brandon Hooper, and Steven McClure; four great grandchildren, Hunter, Myra, Hayden, and Laynei; sister Alda Wilson; and brother Frelin Woodard both of Swain County; and a special friend Gene Gibson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Whittier Church of God. Revs. Ned Pressley, Eddie Stillwell, and Clark Sheffield will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday at Crisp Funeral Home where Mr. Woodard will remain until placed in the Church 1 hour prior to the service.
