Obituary of Donnie Ray Burns

Donnie R. Burns, 63, of Erwin, TN, and Bryson City, NC passed away February 19, 2015 after a short illness, in Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Swain County, he was the son of Fannie Burns of Bryson City and the late Gainey William Burns. He worked many years at Smokemont Riding Stables and loved to read, camp and travel. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Randy and Timmy Burns. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jennifer Burns; two sons, Jerry Dean Jenkins and wife Cyndi of Bryson City, Bryan Burns and wife Mergina of Vine Grove, KY; one granddaughter; three step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Cook; and one brother, John Burns and wife Kym both of Bryson City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Ray Ball will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
