John Wesley Swayney, 74, of the Big Cove Community, passed away Tuesday March 10, 2015, in a Jackson County Hospital. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of Jesse Lorenzo and Lucy Sequoyah Swayney. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served from 1957-1960. John was preceded in death by a grandson Chris Brown; five brothers Kenneth, Abraham, Rex, and Dennis Driver and Mark Swayney; and two sisters, Joyce Driver Teesateskie, and Rosalie Driver Montalongo.
He is survived by his wife, Lynette Smith Swayney; one daughter Andrea Swayney and husband Clyde Dull; one son Nick Swayney; grandchildren, Ashleigh Stephens and husband Cory, and Jessica Dull and fiancé Charlie Ensley; two great grandchildren Hayes and Lincoln Stephens; five brothers Mooney Swayney, Eric Driver, David Swayney, Rex Allen Swayney, and Doug Swayney; and three sisters, Dorothy Driver West, Bessie Driver Smoker, and Donna Driver Teesateskie.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Straight Fork Baptist Church.
