Obituary of Richard Steven McCurry

Richard Steven (Butch) McCurry, 73, of the Buckner Branch Community in Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord Thursday April 30, 2015 at his residence. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Chester A. and Nina Crisp McCurry. He was a retired Master Sargent with the United States Army and Served two tours in Vietnam. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Brenda Diann McCurry; two daughters, Angela Kersh and husband Kevin of Copperas Cove, TX, Janey Yarborough and husband Joel of Columbia, SC; stepson, Tony Jones of Bryson City and the late Theresa Parker Jones; five grandchildren and two sisters, and several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Eddie Stillwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Blankenship Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
