Obituary of Jesse Mitchel Grant

Jesse Mitchel (Bud) Grant, 79, of the Grassy Branch Community went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 12, 2015 in a Jackson County hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Jesse James and Velma Roper Grant. He was a retired US Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He returned to Fort Bragg as field First Sergeant and then transferred to Panama OPNS/TNG NCOIC. He retired June 30, 1976 after 22 years one month of service. He was a deputy sheriff of Seminole County, FL. He done civil service at Patrick Air Force Base as Sheet Metal Mechanic. RIF to MOTSU, Sunny Point, NC as Federal Marshall/Scty Police. After a back injury in 1990, he returned to his hometown of Bryson City where he bought his house and became Commander of the Bryson City VFW Post 9281 for 5 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Retta Jo Grant; two sons, two brothers and one great grandchild. He is survived by 11 children; 25 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Robert and Eddie Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the Silvermine Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Bryson City VFW Post 9281. The family will receive friend from 5 to 7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
